The Director of the Belgian-Netherlands Mine Warfare School (EGUERMIN) is either a Belgian or a Netherlands Senior Naval Officer. Policy guidance is issued by the bi-national Board of Supervisors whilst advice on programming Instruction and Training is provided by the Advisory Board. Internally, the school is organized in three divisions:

  • The Education and Training Department, headed by a Belgian or a Netherlands Senior Naval Officer, is responsible for the ex-cathedra lessons and the training ashore and at sea. This department consists mainly of Naval Officers and Chief Petty Officers of both nationalities and an Exchange Officer of the USN. The head of this department is the Deputy Director of the school and is of a different nationality than the Director.
  • The Expertise Department, headed by a German Senior Naval Officer, is responsible for the exchange of expertise between the Naval Mine Warfare Centre of Excellence (NMW COE), NATO and the other Centers of Excellence and supports the NMW COE Management to provide central and co-ordinated subject matter expertise (SME) on Naval Mine Warfare (NMW) operations.
  • The Executive Department, headed by a Belgian Senior Naval Officer, is responsible for supporting EGUERMIN with administration, logistics, supplies, security, finance, messing, etc. This department consists of Belgian personnel.

To improve the readiness and preparedness of Belgian and Netherlands NMW-capabilities a NMW Knowledge Centre (NMWKC) and a NMW Mission Support Centre (NMWMSC) were established in Ostend collocated with the Belgian-Netherlands Mine Warfare School (EGUERMIN). These two departments are part of the Admiral BENELUX (ABNL) organisation.

  • The ABNL Naval Mine Warfare Knowledge Centre, headed by a Netherlands Senior Naval Officer, contributes to the progress of NMW within the strategic, conceptual, doctrine, tactical and technological level in order to enhance and to ensure the readiness of Belgian and Netherlands Navy NMW capabilities.
  • The ABNL Naval Mine Warfare Mission Support Centre, headed by a Netherlands Naval Officer, supports the ABNL, Belgian and Netherlands operational commanders with the preparation, execution and evaluation of the NMW part of their missions worldwide by providing the relevant NMW information and by supporting command and control during a NMW mission in order to optimize NMW capabilities.
